Does this mean the deer will be next to get married?
At a wedding, it is customary for the bride to throw her bouquet in the air, and according to tradition, the one who is lucky enough to catch the bouquet, is next to walk to the altar. But when Morgan and Luke Mackley got married during Labor Day Weekend at the Felt Estate in Saugatuck, Michigan, the throwing of the bouquet was thwarted: a deer came in during their photo shoot, after the ceremony, and ate the bride’s bouquet!
“Morgan wanted the wedding photos to be taken after the ceremony in a field nearby, so we walked there after dinner,” says photographer, Laurenda Bennett of Laurenda Marie Photography. “The deer was grazing in the field, and as soon as he saw us, he walked straight towards us, stepped over a small white fence and started pulling flowers out of the bouquet”.
The bride didn’t want to give up her bouquet of Melissa Anne Floral Co. right away and said, “What should I do now?” Bennett remembers.
“But then the deer began to buck because he wanted to eat the rest, so we decided to give the bouquet to him as a small gift.”
And the deer also gave the brand new couple a present in exchange for his tasty gift.
“We came back later and saw that there was one rose, all intact,” Bennett said. “So we made jokes about how Morgan got ‘the last rose’, just like in The Bachelorette.”
Bennett actually believes that the bouquet thief might have been the infamous Saugatuck Buck, who is notorious in this nature reserve and more often looks for couples to photobomb. In July, he appeared on the wedding photos of Dori Anne and Austin Swiercz and he was also present during the romantic beach visit of Colbie Wakeley and Jake Lee.
“We’re not sure if it was him, but I almost think it was,” says Bennett. “It just seems to be a very friendly deer.”
Bennett shared the photos on Facebook. Of course, they went viral right away and were shared more than 56,000 times in just a few days. “You can not make this up,” a Facebook user said. “The most beautiful wedding photo shoot I’ve ever seen.”
“A lot of people have said that Morgan looks like a Disney princess,” says Bennett. “It was a unique experience and we’re very happy it happened to us.”
