Sometimes, you need to do things that you usually wouldn’t consider to conquer your fears. Once you see that fear doesn’t have to take control of your life, you can begin branching out to do other activities that you haven’t done in the past.
Here are a few ways that you can conquer this emotion that could hold you back.
Before you begin doing activities that you aren’t sure of, consider why you’ve avoided them in the first place. When you’re able to understand fear itself and why it’s holding you back, it’s often easier to face those issues to achieve your goals.
Give it a Name
If you’re afraid of something, give it a name to treat it like a person. Talk to the fear as you would someone you might not like. Tell the fear that you’re not going to let it take over any longer. You can and will conquer it on your own.
Instead of looking at what you’re going to do the next day or even a week later, try to make long-term plans for ways that you’re going to continue conquering your fears. Write a journal. You could also make a calendar of activities and write notes as you do the activities. This way, you’re not letting fear overwhelm.
Take the time to learn about the fear that you have. If it’s a fear of heights, learn about safety gear that can be used so that you feel comfortable. As you begin educating yourself about ways you can safely conquer your fear, it becomes easier to gather the courage to face the problem. You can also learn about the reasons why you might be afraid of something in the first place. Sometimes, events in life can spill over to being fearful of those issues in the future.
It’s alright if you don’t succeed at first. Wait a few days or weeks to tackle your fears again. If you don’t want to conquer your fear by doing something scary right away, take baby steps to meet the challenge.
When fear takes over your life, it can be difficult to enjoy even the little things. Talk to someone about your worries so that you could gain the support you need. Once you’ve conquered your fears, then you can slowly take on other challenges in your life.
